The Silver Elite club is so creepy actually. The fan clubs for Genesis and Angeal share basic information about Angeal loving plants and cooking or Genesis having a history with Loveless.
But Silver Elite takes it to another level. The information is uncomfortably private. Sephiroth sneaking into the training room with his friends was supposed to be a secret, but Hojo exposed it anyway. Yet in the same newsletter he writes about how Sephiroth valued his privacy. Great.
Then for Hojo to share something as personal as what Sephiroth used to clean his “long beautiful hair” is absolutely repulsive and disgusting. All that fan club did was expose how obsessed Hojo was with Sephiroth and how closely he monitored him all his life.
It's really eye-opening because Silver Elite is sorta played for laughs in CC, or at least meant to be kind of amusing because it's Sephiroth doing mundane Sephiroth things, only for you to realize in hindsight that it's actually a very deeply violating invasion of privacy. Sephiroth around CC era won't even LOOK at Hojo, much less speak to him. I refuse to believe he's giving Hojo any license to post all this private information without Shinra pressuring him into compliance.
People have expectations of Sephiroth. That he's this regal, dominant creature that is always in control, always above everyone else, always flawless and badass at everything he does. They know him as a villain, powerful, imposing, always two steps ahead of Cloud and crew, always smug and threatening and towering over the competition. Crisis Core (and First Soldier) paints a far grimmer picture as to the person Sane!Sephiroth really was pre-madness. He's actually very passive and subdued, dare I say submissive. He has his pride, yeah. And a level of authority over his men. He's definitely not someone you want to annoy or come to blows with. But in his private life within Shinra, he's actually very nonconfrontational and sort of bleakly resigned to everything.
Maybe the EC marketing was right when it suggested that the audience doesn't really KNOW Sephiroth. Because the way the real Sephiroth acts doesn't suggest dominance or power or autonomy of any kind. He's dealt a lot of daily Shinra bullshit and he just puts up with it. He does as he's told. He can be choosy about his missions and he might have a few more privileges than the average soldier. But his hands are just as tied as everyone else's. Maybe even more so because his guardians are allowed to exploit him for profit day after day just to drum up propaganda for new recruits.

Snippets from an AGSZC AU, where Cloud gets stolen by Hojo early on
From the @strayheartless archives <3
CW: mentions of prostitution (not among the guys, not graphic)
Cloud got disappeared by Shinra into the labs, and AGSZC was a thing beforehand.
—--
Cloud manages to get out on his own, single mindedly focused on making it to Genesis and Sephiroth to tell them about degradation and Jenova, but only getting as far as Zack's apartment before his legs give out, falling into the closed door with a thunk.
Kunsel, who lives next door, hears him and comes out in time to see Cloud try to crawl to the elevator since Zack isn't home. He doesn't recognize Kunsel when he tries to help, shoving him away and saying "Gen" over and over again...or is it "Jen"?
Kunsel alerts the group and they're there in a flash. Cloud does recognize Sephiroth and Genesis, but when he speaks, it's so garbled that they don't understand.
Finally, mission accomplished (in his addled mind), dripping mako, wearing paper-thin scrubs, Cloud passes out.
The next day, Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth were scheduled to use the training room for a spar; instead, they're with Cloud.
—-
Cloud, for many weeks or months after, is highly susceptible to Sephiroth's will. Sephiroth is holding him in the car that Kunsel is driving away from Midgar, wishing Cloud would rest, and he loses consciousness so hard and so fast that they panic and pull over, setting up the portable monitors they stole and waiting in tense silence until Cloud's breathing and pulse regain some strength.
When Sephiroth hears from the doctor in Wutai (where they defected) that there's a chance Cloud will never walk on his own again, Sephiroth's wish that he would be able to is so strong that Cloud gets up and tries to walk, injuring himself.
Genesis is the first to figure out what's happening, thanks to Cloud and Kunsel's Intel, and hints Sephiroth has dropped over the years about Hojo’s experiments, and takes Sephiroth aside. Seph feels so, so guilty. He's quiet and shaking, flinching when Genesis reaches a hand to his shoulder.
—-
Kunsel helps train Cloud to resist Sephiroth’s influence while the others are sent away; after all, he went through intensive Turk training to resist torture and manipulation. Sephiroth feels Cloud's distress and difficulty and has to be held back from running home immediately to make Kunsel stop.
Distance makes the bond weaker, so it's important he stays as far away as is reasonable, so Cloud can get used to it gradually. But it hurts. It hurts both of them. Sephiroth wants to run away entirely, but the instant that desire crosses his mind while talking to Genesis, Cloud screams from the other room in physical pain.
—
They know about degradation beforehand, thanks to Cloud and Kunsel, and they know the cure will involve Genesis and Angeal being given S-cells, which will connect the two of them to Sephiroth just like Cloud. So they take the Turk training from Kunsel too, now with Cloud’s help since he’s gone through it.
At least Angeal and Genesis do the Turk training before they're connected, which helps, but it's still excruciating sometimes, for all parties. Angeal, Genesis, and Cloud are in physical pain often as they work out how to resist Sephiroth’s pull, and Sephiroth feels so guilty over everything and has to concentrate on not letting his feelings get the better of him.
Zack is a rock for Sephiroth, and Genesis becomes jealous of this sometimes. That used to be HIM, but it's so much harder these days to use his silver tongue on someone with so much influence over him. Sephiroth doesn't believe him NEARLY as easily, because he has a better sense of when Gen is unsure and trying to comfort him vs. actually confident.
—-
Kunsel’s mom was a highly influential prostitute from Wall Market. It’s where he got his cunning and street smarts, and her beauty is part of why he wears the helmet, to shield everyone's eyes from his handsome face. Nobody believes him when he tells them, for some reason, but he privately thinks it’s funny when the guys are cussing him out during Turk training.
Angeal: SON OF A WHORE!
Kunsel: Yeah, her name is Destiny and she is the hottest and most influential whore in Wall Market, you'd like her. Now sit down.
Genesis: FUCK YOU!
Kunsel: No, that's mom's thing. Now take a deep breath.
—--
Cloud is the first to figure out he can communicate on some level with Angeal and Genesis too, and they lean heavily on his mental fortitude while he leans on their physical strength, still weak from the experimentation.
Meanwhile, Sephiroth's in the next town over, looking like the saddest wet cat ever while Zack babysits him.
Sephiroth: Are they rejecting me? They're quiet right now, do they hate me?
Zack: Nah, man, they're practicing so you'll feel better!
Yuffie: HI WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE A WET CAT AND SMELL LIKE GRADE-A MAKO?!
Zack: Oh no! The great ninja Yuffie!
Sephiroth: ????????
—-
Zack takes Kunsel to meet Yuffie to help him de-stress. On 95% of people, this would not work, but Kunsel's deepest loves are chaos and information, both of which Yuffie has in abundance.
Yuffie: SNEAK ATTACK!
Kunsel: *dodges* *holds up a can of spray paint* *sends a secret code message with his eyebrows*
Yuffie: fuck. Yeah. *sends a secret message back*
Both of them turn to face Zack, and he feels a sudden terror deep in his puppy bones.
—-
Cloud's trying to relearn how to walk and the chaos twins show up to heckle him. Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth are about to get Very Mad when Zack shakes his head and whispers "wait". Zack understands that Cloud STRIFE does really well when he has something to fight against, and by the end of the session, he's made some big strides in order to give Yuffie and Kunsel what they deserve.
Yuffie: *steals one of Cloud's crutches*
Cloud: FUCK YOU *gains the energy to hobble angrily after her where he didn't have it before*
Then Cloud is sore for days because he pushed so hard, and Kunsel and Yuffie are sore for days because they harassed the chocobo and he got revenge.
—-
Cloud doesn't like being helpless. He doesn't. He doesn't like having to lean on someone or be carried around in their big, warm arms. He doesn't like them softly petting his hair or massaging his aching muscles.
He hates being waited on and feels totally, definitely, for sure smothered when they cuddle him for hours at a time. Definitely. Super hates it, when their arms surround him, when he can no longer feel the gooey mako because he feels their breath instead.
He doesn't fall asleep, incredibly content, in Angeal's lap at dinner, or on Zack's back as they go out for fresh air, or bridal carried by Sephiroth on the deck of a ship, or under Genesis' arm in bed as Gen sings softly. Of course not.
He's way too tough for that, he's not soft at all, or he wouldn't have made it out all on his own to find them. If he let himself sink into weakness, he might not be able to get up again.
—-
Then Sephiroth listens in on these thoughts, and tells the others, who then remind Cloud that he CAN be weak, at least with them, and that it's ok. Would Cloud fault Sephiroth for crying? Or Genesis for being unable to get up when he was going through S-cell influence withdrawal? Or Angeal for yelling when his heart was being broken during Turk training? Or Zack for needing to be hugged and told he was doing a great job? No? Then shut the fuck up and let your boys cuddle you, you prickly bird.
@heraldofcrow sorry this took a hot minute because I had to pick gifs!

Note: The surgeon is an actual character just not called by a surgeon and depends on how I feel I might make a second part
-----------------------------
The sound of a heart monitor beeping woke Y/N, a groggy fog clouded his vision as he tried to wipe it away but couldn't. It was like his entire body was lead, all his limbs were anchored down and an IV was attached to his arms wires and cords were attached to his body. It took him several minutes to notice he could only see out of one side of his face, he blinked a few times before primal panic set in. He had no idea where he was, he was naked, and his eye was missing. What was worse it didn’t hurt. The room was freezing cold, so cold that it almost burned his skin.
Muffled conversation could be heard outside the room, nurses started to filter in and out carrying papers, others were holding little medical equipment bags. Y/N strained to try to understand what they were saying but it was almost impossible, it was like they were far away; a film was between them. Spots of black started to dance around his vision as a plastic mask was strapped to his face, a surgeon walking into the room wearing an all black uniform was probably an attempt to hide any blood or bodily waste on him. All that he did notice on him was that his hair was black and maybe a white streak on it, hard to make out with all his moving.
After Y/N was knocked out it was time to start the second round of experiments, they had removed his eye mostly because they had a client that wanted the color but they also wanted to see if an eye transplant was possible. The underground heard about some new outsiders that showed up in the hollow but only one of them would be a worthy experiment, they had stalked him for sometime trying to find the perfect time to strike when Grede or Crux or Black was away. Who knew a simple mysterious letter promising to help him get back home was all they needed.
The nurses pulled away some of the cords from Y/N’s abdomen, the surgeon barely spoke, only muttering a few sentences.
“Bring the plague, switch it for the IV.” His idea was that the plague, supposedly, came from Y/N’s world and was a medical “phenomenon” which they took as a good thing. The nurses chirped in agreement and then swapped out the bags attaching a fluorescent green black liquid bag to the line. The liquid slowly dripped down leaking into Y/N’s blood stream spreading through his body, his abdomen was wiped down sterilizing it before the first cut. A simple abdominal cut was made, the skin being peeled back as the surgeon slowly went deeper each slice of Y/N’s body slowly changed him as the plague filtered through his body.
He was very pleased once the cavity was open, all the organs working together perfectly. It quickly became a frantic scene as black started to bloom over the organs, the beautiful red being taken over by a black spider. The surgeon ignored it as he opened up Y/N’s chest cavity seeing the same black spider web pattern across his lungs and heart, the nurses looked between themselves. This didn’t look normal but they refused to interrupt the surgeon. They knew he had a short term bad for them but worse for Y/N.
New organs were brought in from different creatures, each one slowly replacing an old organ, a new set of lungs, new intestines, new kidneys, and as he started to replace the heart which was the hardest organ to change, the artificial heart started to sputter.
“FIX THAT NOW!” The nurses jumped when the surgeon screamed at them, the lungs started to falter from the irregular blood flow and the rest of the body was losing its color a mute black red started to spread. The operating room started to grow panic as they ran around trying to salvage the experiment but it was becoming harder by each passing second the new heart was in place but it wasn’t beating like it should have been, the surgeon quickly sew him back up then attached electric rods to his body thinking it was needed.
The situation went from panic to all out chaos, the heart monitor flat lined, Y/N was seizing on the table, the plague bags were completely empty and the nurses were scared to touch the body.
Y/N started to wake up but his entire body was numb, it felt heavy and light at the same time. He felt an animalistic hunger while this sickening need to eat something full of iron, not human meat but human heart. His head lifted only by a bit before it slammed back down.
The surgeon threw his gloves on the ground, finally breaking into a cold sweat. He was sure that he did the surgery by the book of Dr.Frankenstien to bring back the dead. Which by his conclusion meant that if he were to replace Y/N’s organs there would be a way to bring him to a different dimension sure the logic was extremely flawed but it was a starter experiment being that Y/N was only the second person he did this to. He had successfully brought back others in other ways but he had found this book that seemed to be an easier method that just needed a bit of fixing.
They needed to dispose of him now, if they threw him in the right place he would just be eaten and forgotten about. The nurses quickly took out the IV, the cords and wires dragging him out of the room. They gave up once they broke out into the cold air, deeming the dumpster outside the backdoor was good enough.
Y/N’s body hit the ground with a thud as they scurried inside, it took several hours before all the drugs wore off as he slowly staggered to his feet. This time he woke up and could see out of both sides of his face, one eye was normal but the other eye was seeing things that weren’t like gold threads crossed with red threads. He reached out and plucked the threads they moved but burned his fingers, it took several more minutes to move his body looking around staggering towards Grede place.
Over an hour later he knocked on the door having lost his key, phone, and even pants which took him an embarrassingly long time to pay attention too. Grede opened the door and somehow grew paler than she usually was, she gasped when she looked at him. Her hand jerked him inside, Crux and Black sighed happy to see him before both of their faces turned into a mixture. It was hard to say which expression was the most prominent one; disgust? Anger? Pity? Guilt?
“What happened to you?” Black spoke first staring at the stitches that ziggaged across then at Y/N’s face then back at his abdomen.
“Well at least you didn’t have exposed genitals.” Crux’s weak attempt at a joke fell deaf on the group, Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed then looked down.
“THEY STOLE MY DICK!”

Generative AI tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot are rapidly evolving, fueling concerns that the technology could open the door to multiple privacy and security issues, particularly in the workplace.
In May, privacy campaigners dubbed Microsoft’s new Recall tool a potential “privacy nightmare” due to its ability to take screenshots of your laptop every few seconds. The feature has caught the attention of UK regulator the Information Commissioner’s Office, which is asking Microsoft to reveal more about the safety of the product launching soon in its Copilot+ PCs.
Concerns are also mounting over OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has demonstrated screenshotting abilities in its soon-to-launch macOS app that privacy experts say could result in the capture of sensitive data.
The US House of Representatives has banned the use of Microsoft’s Copilot among staff members after it was deemed by the Office of Cybersecurity to be a risk to users due to “the threat of leaking House data to non-House approved cloud services.”
Meanwhile, market analyst Gartner has cautioned that “using Copilot for Microsoft 365 exposes the risks of sensitive data and content exposure internally and externally.” And last month, Google was forced to make adjustments to its new search feature, AI Overviews, after screenshots of bizarre and misleading answers to queries went viral.
Overexposed
For those using generative AI at work, one of the biggest challenges is the risk of inadvertently exposing sensitive data. Most generative AI systems are “essentially big sponges,” says Camden Woollven, group head of AI at risk management firm GRC International Group. “They soak up huge amounts of information from the internet to train their language models.”
AI companies are “hungry for data to train their models,” and are “seemingly making it behaviorally attractive” to do so, says Steve Elcock, CEO and founder at software firm Elementsuite. This vast amount of data collection means there’s the potential for sensitive information to be put “into somebody else’s ecosystem,” says Jeff Watkins, chief product and technology officer at digital consultancy xDesign. “It could also later be extracted through clever prompting.”
At the same time, there’s the threat of AI systems themselves being targeted by hackers. “Theoretically, if an attacker managed to gain access to the large language model (LLM) that powers a company's AI tools, they could siphon off sensitive data, plant false or misleading outputs, or use the AI to spread malware,” says Woollven.
Consumer-grade AI tools can create obvious risks. However, an increasing number of potential issues are arising with “proprietary” AI offerings broadly deemed safe for work such as Microsoft Copilot, says Phil Robinson, principal consultant at security consultancy Prism Infosec.
“This could theoretically be used to look at sensitive data if access privileges have not been locked down. We could see employees asking to see pay scales, M&A activity, or documents containing credentials, which could then be leaked or sold.”
Another concern centers around AI tools that could be used to monitor staff, potentially infringing their privacy. Microsoft’s Recall feature states that “your snapshots are yours; they stay locally on your PC” and “you are always in control with privacy you can trust.”
Yet “it doesn’t seem very long before this technology could be used for monitoring employees,” says Elcock.
Self-Censorship
Generative AI does pose several potential risks, but there are steps businesses and individual employees can take to improve privacy and security. First, do not put confidential information into a prompt for a publicly available tool such as ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, says Lisa Avvocato, vice president of marketing and community at data firm Sama.
When crafting a prompt, be generic to avoid sharing too much. “Ask, ‘Write a proposal template for budget expenditure,’ not ‘Here is my budget, write a proposal for expenditure on a sensitive project,’” she says. “Use AI as your first draft, then layer in the sensitive information you need to include.”
If you use it for research, avoid issues such as those seen with Google’s AI Overviews by validating what it provides, says Avvocato. “Ask it to provide references and links to its sources. If you ask AI to write code, you still need to review it, rather than assuming it’s good to go.”
Microsoft has itself stated that Copilot needs to be configured correctly and the “least privilege”—the concept that users should only have access to the information they need—should be applied. This is “a crucial point,” says Prism Infosec’s Robinson. “Organizations must lay the groundwork for these systems and not just trust the technology and assume everything will be OK.”
It’s also worth noting that ChatGPT uses the data you share to train its models, unless you turn it off in the settings or use the enterprise version.
List of Assurances
The firms integrating generative AI into their products say they’re doing everything they can to protect security and privacy. Microsoft is keen to outline security and privacy considerations in its Recall product and the ability to control the feature in Settings > Privacy & security > Recall & snapshots.
Google says generative AI in Workspace “does not change our foundational privacy protections for giving users choice and control over their data,” and stipulates that information is not used for advertising.
OpenAI reiterates how it maintains security and privacy in its products, while enterprise versions are available with extra controls. “We want our AI models to learn about the world, not private individuals—and we take steps to protect people’s data and privacy,” an OpenAI spokesperson tells WIRED.
OpenAI says it offers ways to control how data is used, including self-service tools to access, export, and delete personal information, as well as the ability to opt out of use of content to improve its models. ChatGPT Team, ChatGPT Enterprise, and its API are not trained on data or conversations, and its models don’t learn from usage by default, according to the company.
Either way, it looks like your AI coworker is here to stay. As these systems become more sophisticated and omnipresent in the workplace, the risks are only going to intensify, says Woollven. “We're already seeing the emergence of multimodal AI such as GPT-4o that can analyze and generate images, audio, and video. So now it's not just text-based data that companies need to worry about safeguarding.”
With this in mind, people—and businesses—need to get in the mindset of treating AI like any other third-party service, says Woollven. “Don't share anything you wouldn't want publicly broadcasted.”

Key Factors for Consistent Returns:
Risk Management:
Regardless of the accuracy of signals, risk management is crucial. Setting stop-loss orders and controlling the size of trades helps protect against significant losses.
Education:
Traders should understand the basics of forex trading to make informed decisions, even when using signals. Knowledge enhances the ability to assess and filter signals effectively.
Continuous Monitoring:
Markets can change rapidly. Regularly monitoring trades and adjusting strategies based on changing conditions is essential for consistent returns.
Choosing Reliable Signal Providers:
Not all signal providers are equal. Researching and choosing reputable providers with a track record of success is vital.
Challenges and Risks:
Market Conditions:
Signals may not perform well in all market conditions. Understanding the strengths and limitations of the chosen signals is crucial.
Over-Reliance:
Overreliance on signals without understanding the underlying market dynamics can lead to losses.
Scams:
The forex market is not immune to scams. Traders should be cautious and choose signal providers carefully to avoid fraudulent schemes.
Conclusion:
While forex signals offer a valuable tool for traders seeking consistent returns, they are not a guaranteed pathway to success. Successful trading requires a holistic approach that includes a blend of education, strategic thinking, and effective risk management. Traders should view signals as part of their toolkit and not as a standalone solution. When used wisely, forex signals can indeed contribute to achieving more consistent returns in the ever-evolving world of forex trading.

on one hand i think the Wall Market's vibes managed to stay the same while also being quite different from the OG to the Remake -- and it's not to say one is better than the other, it's just, drastically different.
But i think it's really fun to see how they adjusted to this different set up.
Like in the OG Wall Market... is really dirty. diy dirty. There is no moral nor even an actual defined hierarchy other than "Corneo is on top". When Cloud and Aerith decide to both enter the "new bride tournament for Corneo" they're basically scrapping by from anything they can find in town.
They help the drunk dressmaker from a failing business to want inspiration again by finding his calling in helping people crossdress. They get the help of a drag queen in a random gym to get a wig for Cloud. They have to buy stuff out of a vending machine until a tiara falls down. You help some guy find puking medication and he gives you some stuff to help you cross dress properly. You have to buy a specific meal to have access to a special prize you can use to make Cloud the perfect girl.
and obviously there's the Honey Bee Inn, by far the section that needed to be made less problematic, but who was a dirty place. None of the dancers liked being here, all of them talk about being harassed, you're supposed to get lace underwears for Cloud on there and the two options to get it are widely homophobic, but require Cloud pretending to be a client and going in one of the room to steal some underwear he could use. (in case it's not known the homophobic parts include a room where Cloud gets dragged into a communal bath and it's pretty much implied he's being groped by other men and Cloud is uncomfortable, or another room which is much more ominous since it's one of the first place Cloud can have a full mental breakdown that is impossible to ignore, but once he wakes up it's because a naked man is slapping his face on top of him and it's, once again, really uncomfortable for Cloud)
And the OG was all built around the fact that you had to do a lot of quests in Wall Market to scrap by all of that to be picked as Corneo's best girl as Cloud, otherwise Tifa and Aerith would be the ones getting picked, and you don't want that.
It feels more like battling a secret mafia than anything else. You're scrapping by with what you find, you know it's not going to be flawless, to get to perfection you just need to get lucky finding the right items. But everything is so dirty and disgusting and yet it's this macabre look into the city's vices that get interesting.
I'd say the OG still handle the crossdressing itself okayish (and i sure have heard a lot of people talk about how it was their trans awakening so i don't want to dig on a 1997 game for that) but yeah.
It was undeniable while getting into the remake that they had to fix some things without letting go of what the people loved. There was a line to walk between problematic (because the antagonist is problematic) and problematic (because we aren't being respectful of groups of people)
In the Remake, Wall Market is pretty much Vegas. It's big and loud and flashy in a way the OG wasn't specifically. Not that the game WASNT, but not to this extend.
Now there's a clear hierarchy and Corneo's fingerprints can be found anywhere. He controls the town, he's the king of it. And now his "Bride Auction" is less of a dirty thing done quickly by his underling, and instead, while still dirty, something that comes from a huge system with a trio at the top, just under Corneo, who monitor anything Corneo gets or not.
So instead of the DIY portions of the game, the whole quests become about impressing the Trio instead. You need to get the good graces of the elite in order to get by, it's no longer about how helping other people in the same misery you're in can give you some goodies by the end.
Now you count on the Trio to help you, while all the little quests from the OG are spread around like easter eggs or don't carry the same weight either. Deciding of the dresses everyone will wear depends on whenever you completed a certain amount of quests or picked the right dialogue options in chapters predating Wall Market, compared to the OG where it's really just your actions in Wall Market that gives you any outcome for Wall Market.
I think some of it is a little weird to scrutiny -- i totally believe in the dirty male centric mafia from the OG, while seeing Madam M, a strong dominatrix having to bow by the law of Corneo while being her higher adjudant, and Andrea the glam queen and definitely openly bi man, and yet all of them being directly involved in this bride auction is a little... questionable in some way, but i think it can work on the angle of, it's a bit like on the surface isn't it. Like how a dude like Reeve end up doing all the dirty work Shinra ask about because it's the system which is set in place and nothing can be done, but at least in a place of power you can mitigate damages. And for what it's worth Sam and Madam M both try to dissuade us.
But, undeniably, it makes the whole thing a lot more Glam. It's no lower a city by the sewer that's scrapping by, it's glamour, luxerious, like drowning the ugly truth under the bright lights.
The Honey Bee Inn stands therefore especially differently with how they changed it. Instead they go out of their way to show the dancers there love their work, genuinely see their work as art, and while the brothel aspect is still hinted at, it's with a lot more of a "everyone is very into it on here no biggie" ambiance than the OG where the women working there were disgusted with their work.
And obviously all the homophobic stuff instead are replaced by Andrea, Glam Queen of them all, who will encourage Cloud to embrace experimenting with gender, and instead respectfully explains that people are free to live their truth. it's honestly probably the best step up they could have done compared to the OG.
(though i am sad we're therefore losing one of the big "what the FUCK is wrong with Cloud moment" because this is one of my favorite scene from how terrifying and out of nowhere it is, and the fact it's optional and Cloud never mentions it again, and in the OG it's one of the real first time Cloud acts EXTREMELY WEIRD. The Remake kinda hammed it up a lot more imo (mostly because some subtle elements didn't come out as subtle in HD, but also bc they did such weird choices with them, re the scrapped knees scene) so in a sense i feel like this scene wouldn't have its place in the remake because it's just oh, another weird Cloud moment. But in the OG it's just SO GOOD.)
(but it's also something to say about how surprisingly the Remake removes any agency the player does have on Cloud, which is a shame because the OG does a really interesting metatextual thing by regularly facing you with choices that actually do alter some plotbeats or the way you experience the plot, to build up to the moment Cloud realize what's wrong with him and suddenly you no longer have a choice to control him, because Cloud is no longer controlable and everything. The Remake is so quick to make itself a story about how it's a timeloop the characters have no escape from, things replay the same anytime, but by removing the themes of agency that were in the gameplay at first. How can you say that the player is forcing the timeline to repeat itself while also removing the player's print on the gameplay? Especially since Cloud gets picked as prettiest girl no matter what in the Remake so it loses how much your choices change anything aside from the aesthetics changes. It becomes really superficial. i know it might seem weird to mention but the fact AC!Cloud took people by surprise because people played Cloud very differently and therefore had a different perception of him, really show imo how the OG managed to have you control him until he finds himself again. Like it's really weird that the remake has this subtext of fate and the characters being unable to change their fate (or are they?) when during this portion of the game the players could get alternative storylines depending on their choices and the way they decided to control Cloud. that was a tangent)
I do really like it, i don't actually have anything to say in the idea of "they missed the point!!" because no, i actually think i get it. The OG is a lot more scrapping by, but still with the idea Shinra secretly support Corneo's grip on this town. So instead really making it a mindnumbing town where Corneo's power is felt genuinely does work.
But there's definitely a real difference from going from the dirty DIY where you'll make it out in the dirt with the people in the dirt with you, compared to playing by the system's rules to get what you need.
Anyway actually the reason i started this post is that, because of this radical change, others things had to change, and mainly, the whole section where Aerith guides you through the collapsed sector is straight up haunted in the OG. That's where you run into the hell house originally, major haunted houses that attack you on sight. The point is that a lot of people died here and people are haunting the place.
but it would have been too gaudy to have the haunted houses there, and tbh i do think they completely dropped the idea of the sector being straight up haunted to just replace it with traditional shinra weapons, but it's whatever imo, there's the train graveyard scene later so i can imagine they didn't want the redundancy with this specific haunted part. (though considering what i've heard about the adaptation of the Shinra's Mansion in Rebirth it does strike me as a patern of the remake genuinely being scared to dip into some of the horror-atmosphere element of the OG. But i'll really judge that when i reach the Train Graveyard and the Shinra Massacre, as to me those are the others big horror moment in this section of the OG)
So, instead, using the flashiness of the new Wall Market, to have Corneo organize gladiator arena matches where you end up fighting one of the major Hell House? I think it's a fine compromise.
It does change a "horror inclined" moment into a divertisment moment which is eehhhh, but, i think at this point, the dices were set.
to make the Honey Bee Inn less problematic it changed Wall Market drastically and by result they needed to work around the new set up.
And, for all the complains i have there, i do think it's cool.
it's not in a "one is better than the other" but in a "the two of them tell their story very differently and there's two very specific image of Wall Market resonating from those changes".
It's an interesting bit of the game in term of Adaptation. What to leave in, what to upgrade, what can be added for the social commentary ect....
i'll miss the dirty DIY angle of the OG, but i'm having a blast with this glam explosion of vices in the Remake.
Different takes, both interesting in their own way. hell yeah.
#i ended up writing a lot more than i had in mind#anyway i paused the hell house fight for the past 30mins because i got lost in the sauce#but man.#still i miss the secret honey bee inn scene#ichablogging ffviirg

Strange Chinese trade-war recommendations at US Congress
COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF THE COMMISSION’S 2024 RECOMMENDATIONS Part II: Technology and Consumer Product Opportunities and Risks Chapter 3: U.S.-China Competition in Emerging Technologies The Commission recommends:
Congress establish and fund a Manhattan Project-like program dedicated to racing to and acquiring an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) capability. AGI is generally defined as systems that are as good as or better than human capabilities across all cognitive domains and would surpass the sharpest human minds at every task. Among the specific actions the Commission recommends for Congress:
Provide broad multiyear contracting authority to the executive branch and associated funding for leading artificial intelligence, cloud, and data center companies and others to advance the stated policy at a pace and scale consistent with the goal of U.S. AGI leadership; and
Direct the U.S. secretary of defense to provide a Defense Priorities and Allocations System “DX Rating” to items in the artificial intelligence ecosystem to ensure this project receives national priority.
Congress consider legislation to:
Require prior approval and ongoing oversight of Chinese involvement in biotechnology companies engaged in operations in the United States, including research or other related transactions. Such approval and oversight operations shall be conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in consultation with other appropriate governmental entities. In identifying the involvement of Chinese entities or interests in the U.S. biotechnology sector, Congress should include firms and persons: ○ Engaged in genomic research; ○ Evaluating and/or reporting on genetic data, including for medical or therapeutic purposes or ancestral documentation; ○ Participating in pharmaceutical development; ○ Involved with U.S. colleges and universities; and ○ Involved with federal, state, or local governments or agen cies and departments.
Support significant Federal Government investments in biotechnology in the United States and with U.S. entities at every level of the technology development cycle and supply chain, from basic research through product development and market deployment, including investments in intermediate services capacity and equipment manufacturing capacity.
To protect U.S. economic and national security interests, Congress consider legislation to restrict or ban the importation of certain technologies and services controlled by Chinese entities, including:
Autonomous humanoid robots with advanced capabilities of (i) dexterity, (ii) locomotion, and (iii) intelligence; and
Energy infrastructure products that involve remote servicing, maintenance, or monitoring capabilities, such as load balancing and other batteries supporting the electrical grid, batteries used as backup systems for industrial facilities and/ or critical infrastructure, and transformers and associated equipment.
Congress encourage the Administration’s ongoing rulemaking efforts regarding “connected vehicles” to cover industrial machinery, Internet of Things devices, appliances, and other connected devices produced by Chinese entities or including Chinese technologies that can be accessed, serviced, maintained, or updated remotely or through physical updates.
Congress enact legislation prohibiting granting seats on boards of directors and information rights to China-based investors in strategic technology sectors. Allowing foreign investors to hold seats and observer seats on the boards of U.S. technology start-ups provides them with sensitive strategic information, which could be leveraged to gain competitive advantages. Prohibiting this practice would protect intellectual property and ensure that U.S. technological advances are not compromised. It would also reduce the risk of corporate espionage, safeguarding America’s leadership in emerging technologies.
Congress establish that:
The U.S. government will unilaterally or with key interna- tional partners seek to vertically integrate in the develop- ment and commercialization of quantum technology.
Federal Government investments in quantum technology support every level of the technology development cycle and supply chain from basic research through product development and market deployment, including investments in intermediate services capacity.
The Office of Science and Technology Policy, in consultation with appropriate agencies and experts, develop a Quantum Technology Supply Chain Roadmap to ensure that the United States coordinates outbound investment, U.S. critical supply chain assessments, the activities of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), and federally supported research activities to ensure that the United States, along with key allies and partners, will lead in this critical technology and not advance Chinese capabilities and development....

The Airs of Rebel's Outopos
Not every night in the new city is the same.
Inspired by a recent post and challenge - accessible here - that created "Airs of X" for their character's version of the City in Silver. Thought I'd have a go at trying the same.
The following city may include: spiders, militants, the breaking of cosmic law for ideological and personal gain, and fungi.
0: Beyond the walls, the distant crack of a gunshot.
1-3: Something humped and many-legged scuttles across the façade of a building, then is gone.
4-6: Shadowy figures cluster around a communal bonfire, laughing and chatting.
7: Tracklayers kneel around a patch of soil and pull strange-shaped devices from the dirt. Some devices hum. Others tick.
8-10: A hinge-hound nudges your side and whines in search of a pet. A bloody Ministry badge dangles from its lower-left jaw.
11-14: Urchins shriek and whoop from the roof-tops as they set off unlicensed fireworks at each other.
15-18: A visiting hobbyist looks on with awkward thanks as her automobile is pulled from the muck by a horse-sized, moon-eyed monitor lizard.
19-22: Spiders spill from an open sewer hatch in a shimmering, emerald tide.
23-26: Moonlight washes gently over the street. Somewhere else, the Internationale is played on union pipes.
27-30: A Young Stag recent to the city walks tentatively, but openly hand-in-tentacle with his rubbery nurse paramour.
31-34: A sudden clearing of the crowd: a reiver patrol has returned to the city. The booming calls and clicks of their terror birds reverberate in the bones.
35-38: False-skeletons from the Bone Market are an increasingly popular novelty fad. Most inhabitants find them kitsch. Some find them aspirational.
39-42: Noises erupt from an ampitheatre. Some are the cheers of the crowd. Some are the bellows of ancient creatures. Some are like nothing you have ever heard.
43-45: Anarchists and cladesfolk from the Roof conduct illicit business in open plazas. Weapons for allies; metal for flesh.
46-49: Phosphorescent scarab hives score mesmeric ribbons of viric and apocyan in the air. Passersby yawn and remember their beds.
50: The city’s vitality leads to miniature ecosystems within the depths of the costermongers’ carts. Leechberries parasitize the helpless flanks of the thunder melons but flee from the predation of needle-carrots. All hide from the vakeapple.
51-53: Amateur aero-enthusiasts and beast-breeders alike surround a recently-docked balloon from the Roof. Talk is already forming of a locally-grown air fleet.
54-57: The side of a wall is plastered with broadsheets, posters, hand scrawled drawings: faces of officials, constables, factory owners. A new arrival walks up to carefully, methodically cross out the face of an Iron and Misery overseer.
58-61: Webs shroud a cluster of streets like banners. Handmade signs advertise the services of silk weavers, scrimshanders, venom mixologists.
62-65: Raucous youth assemble for a trip to London. There is furious argument over whether to see the Museum of Prelapsarian History or Museum of Injustice first.
66-69: Poets of the Nocturnal Ooze movement seek inspiration in the city’s fungal-commons. The more fortunate find their lips and pens fecund with creative spore. The less fortunate are attacked by blemmigans.
70-73: Mist forms on the opposite side of a mirror. The eyes of the aurochs are upon you.
74-76: Tracklayers hack away at undergrowth recently and rapidly sprouted up through an alleyway. The city’s vitality is appreciated, but occasionally overwhelming.
77: Banners with popular phrases of resistance are plentiful on festival days. ‘CAST OFF THESE CHAINS’. ‘DUSK BEFORE DAWN’. ‘DO NOT FORGET. DO NOT FORGIVE’.
78-80: The rattling of an osteomonger’s tambourine. Bones! Bones for the picking!
81-83: Urchins crowd around the storefront of a recently-immigrated Unsettling Toymaker. They stare at a City Seeding automaton with longing and awe.
84-86: A field of puffballs explodes into a cloud of white, soft spores. For a few moments, it is as if false-winter has come to the city.
87-90: A diplomatic deviless discusses opportunities for collaboration with an opportunistic insurgent, mandibles slowly scraping at a tin of tobacco.
91: The air is hazy, clotted and copper-scented. The heart races; the teeth bare. Someone is committing Red Science.
92: Around the armory, the earth shudders and metal screams in birthing-cry: another mortar-beast claws its way out from the dirt to add to the city’s defenses.
93: Shapelings of all forms relax in an amber spring, bathing and contorting their flesh in novel configurations. It is difficult not to stare.
94: Droplets of slobber on your shoulders. Many eyes, watching. You curse whoever decided to hatch enough brachiating spindlewolves for them to breed true.
95: A visiting academic runs from a nearby lecture hall with pale face and heaving breath. “The sigils,” they moan. “They just…cut open the sigils!”
96: A dirigible from Station VIII drifts closer than it should have. Howitzer-beasts stir. Rockets sprout like teeth. A hush falls over the city for several hours.
97: Here, the city’s walls are slick with a viscid slime-mold that stains crimson and splotches like a fresh bruise. Is the city remembering an injury it once suffered? An injury it once inflicted?
98: A furious rain falls tonight, far from the tepid drizzles of London. By tomorrow morning, the city’s walls will have sprouted further still.
99: Tonight the walls drip with amber and the scent of lemon wafts from underneath the city: an auspicious time, according to local legend, for creating new beasts and new families.
100: For the briefest of moments, you can feel the pulse of the city’s heart. For the briefest of moments, there is no light, no cold, no death: only dark, warmth, and vitality. This is the Liberation of Night.
